Countless books supposedly serious hail the return of Marx and they abound on the shelves of university bookstores. Long ago that I expect more relevant lighting from these types of books whose authors believe that the degree of intelligence is measured by the ability of denigration. I prefer to rejuvenate in the great authors who have made the splendor increased economic thought. Then, to entertain myself, I like to throw myself into a novel. And I did not find in a thriller clear economic analysis that I can hardly find in the bullies of capitalism, which all blend so their hatred trumps reason.
But advances in science are not they partly owe to science fiction? The science has not progressed through the imagination, fertile ground for innovation?
Anyway, I can not resist the temptation to incorporate fully the words that Tom Clancy is bright in the mouth of one of his characters in the novel:
" We all remember the election campaigns for Congress. The candidate told us: "Vote for me, because for every dollar of taxes collected, one dollar and twenty cents back to the district. "You remember those promises?
But they forgot to tell you a few things. Primo, who has never claimed that you depend on the government, a financial standpoint? It is the opposite: the government does not exist if you do not give your money. Second, the government deficit means that each district receives more federal subsidies it pays in taxes federal, I mean in direct federal taxes. Even those that you can see. So these candidates boasted of spending more money than they had. If your neighbor says he draws on your personal checks, you do not think you'll call the police?
We all know that the government collects more than it gives. But he hides. The federal budget deficit means that whenever you borrow money, it costs you more than it should. And why? Because the government itself borrows so much money that it raises interest rates.
So, ladies and gentlemen, each monthly payment for a house or a car, each payment by credit card is also a tax. And sometimes the government offers a tax benefit on interest on your loans. It's nice of him! You're on the offer that you should not have to pay, and then he tells you that you get more than what you paid!
Someone here is gullible enough to swallow that? Ladies and gentlemen, I am not a politician and I am not here today to support either of your candidates to fill vacancies on the House of the People. I'm just here to ask you to think a bit about all this ... "in Tom Clancy , On Order, Volume 2, page367-368 .
In the same vein, the novel by Michael Crichton called "State of Emergency " features a plot that is an excuse to throw a stone into the debate - but the debate is it still possible? - around global warming. Indeed, for environmentalists, the issue of climate change is no longer an assumption but an assumption! By definition, a postulate can not be discussed. And the view to align elements ... that Crichton introduced in all his dialogues refer to actual scientific papers, referenced and published in academic journals recognized (bibliography in support). But this is only a novel. In the past, one Jean de La Fontaine was to stage the animals to try to convey truths that were not good to say to his contemporaries.
